The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress is a long-range, subsonic, jet-powered strategic bomber in service with the USAF since 1955. With a range of over 8,800 miles without refueling and a payload capacity of 70,000 lbs, the B-52 remains the backbone of the US strategic bomber force. Originally designed as a nuclear bomber, it has been extensively used for conventional bombing from Vietnam through the War on Terror.
