B-25 Mitchell

North American WW2 Medium Bomber · Doolittle Raid

The North American B-25 Mitchell was a twin-engine medium bomber used throughout WW2. It is most famous for the Doolittle Raid on April 18, 1942, when 16 B-25Bs launched from USS Hornet to bomb Tokyo — the first air raid to strike the Japanese homeland.

Nearly 10,000 B-25s were built in numerous variants. The aircraft served in every theatre of WW2 and continued in service with many countries after the war.
